Anchovy consumption drops after the Anisakis alert (ES)

Last week, fisheries technicians of the Basque Country Government detected Aniskis in a high proportion of anchovies and, in an attempt to guarantee consumers' safety, a leaflet about safety measures was published. As a consequence, the consumption of this fish dropped during this weekend. To solve the situation, the Spanish Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry has tried to inform the consumers about the safety of this product, if it is appropiately cooked or frozen.

Value-added pangasius product exports obtain higher revenue in first quarter 2014 (EN)

Vietnamese pangasius exports reached USD 388.5 million in the first quarter of 2014, representing an increase of 5.2 per cent year on year. Pangasius products were sent to 126 countries and territories in the world, compared to 123 markets reported a year ago, according to the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

VASEP informed that the increase in sales was seen in the case of value-added seafood products, which obtained a 54.9 per cent rise (USD 3.55 million) in the first quarter this year.

Spanish fishing exports and imports drop (EN)

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA) reported that in 2013 seafood exports fell 4.53 per cent in relation to those in 2012, and imports fell by 1.28 per cent.

According to the latest report on foreign trade of fishery and aquaculture products developed by the Government, shipments abroad increased from 1,004,698 tonnes -- in 2012 -- to 959,203 tonnes -- in 2013 --.
